Costco is Not Your Gift Basket Competitor

By Flora Morris Brown, Ph.D. | November 15, 2007

costco.gifDuring the holidays gift basket designers often worry about the gift baskets sold at Costco, lamenting “How can I compete with Costco?”  You can’t.

Costco gift baskets are attractive, plentiful and very affordable.  But Costco doesn’t need to make much profit from their gift baskets. They offer gift baskets as  a convenience for shoppers who buy more profitable items and services. I’m a big fan of Costco, but they are not your gift basket competitor.

Costco gift baskets are perfect for many customers, but not the discerning small business and corporate clients who want your special touch. Your gift basket business differs from Costco in a number of ways.

  • In-office presentations save your clients time and allow their input.

  • Customized gift baskets will match the recipients’ needs and allow incorporation of your customer’s corporate colors

  • Handmade bows add class and pizzazz to your gift baskets.

  • Personalized gift tags on each basket are a welcome touch.

  • Hand-delivery and shipping remove your client’s last bit of concern.

  • Year-round custom gift baskets meet the ongoing needs of your clients.

Continue to shop Costco for your personal and business needs, but don’t fear them as a gift basket competitor. Forge ahead with your unique gift basket business.

P.S. I created the gift basket pictured above using products mostly from Costco.
