Make Your Customers Feel Secure

By Flora Morris Brown, Ph.D. | November 30, 2007

credit-cards.gifOrdering on the Internet has become one of the most popular ways to order gift baskets. But with the equally increasing incidents of hacking, credit card scams and identity theft, you must make your customers feel secure so they’ll feel at ease ordering from you.

The way to make your customers feel safe is to have Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology that protects your website transactions. SSL is the standard that provides encryption during sensitive online transactions. When payments or messages are sent, they are protected throughout the transmission. Support for SSL is built in to major browsers, but you will need to activate them on your server.

When you are setting up your website to accept credit cards, buy the SSL certificate offered with your shopping cart.

If you accept payments through a third party processor, such as PayPal, encryption is already taken care of.

Learn more about accepting credit cards.

Accepting credit cards used to be a hassle, but now there are so many options that there’s no reason why every merchant cannot offer this type of payment to customers.

Going to a bank is just one alternative. Now, as you state, Flora, PayPal easily sets you up with an account.

It’s time to move forward and install numerous payment options that work for everyone to whom you sell.
